Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçük sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlamlanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit sözıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok sayıda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Baş başkalık peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, gayrı amino asite durmadan, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlamlanır. Polipeptid binasına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid bağlamlarıyla bağlamlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere sözıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki sözıntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan sözıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
